2007 BOYS’ SPRING SESSION
Dear Parents and Athletes:
Our 2007 Spring Session will begin Monday, February 26th and end Sunday, April 29th. To ensure the highest quality of our program, we will be limiting the number of participants in each practice group. They will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The enrollment period will open on Monday, February 12th and close on Thursday, February 22nd (unless we reach capacity at an earlier date), so please complete the registration at your earliest convenience to secure participation for the session. If you are a returning member of our club, you will receive an email notification by February 13th with a link to your “short-cut” registration. Please review and update your personal information before submitting your registration.
This session will feature the following Special Events:
Coach Vargas's Impact Day: During the upcoming session Coach Vargas, along with some members of the Stanford Varsity Team, will hold an "impact day" of training for all spring registered athletes. During this "impact day," Coach Vargas and several Stanford Varsity players will personally supervise practices that are designed to have an impact on each athlete's game. Each of our club athletes will walk away with a few ideas for personal growth in the sport, with an emphasis on offensive play. For very advanced players, Coach Vargas will point to techniques that are used at the Olympic level, where Coach Vargas has played and coached. For younger players, Coach Vargas and the coaching staff will explain what the player has to accomplish to move to the next level. The goal is to put a few thoughts in each player's mind that will aid them with their personal development as they gear up towards the summer sesason.
Premier League Weekend (April 14th& 15th): This weekend, the nation’s top male water polo players will compete in the second of three tournaments of the 2007 Division I Premier League. The league, now in its eighth season, is comprised of the top high school, college, post-college, National and ex-National Team players. Premier League brings elite domestic water polo to various venues throughout the country each year and features four of the nation’s top club teams and four U.S. National Zone Teams. On Saturday, April 14th, we will attend as a club to watch some of the games (played at the SODA Center), and on Sunday, April 15th we will hold our very own Club Premier League for spring session athletes. The Club Premier League teams will combine athletes from our 18&U/16&U/14&U/12&U age divisions in a two division format. More details to come as they become available.
Invitational Games: We will be inviting a club team (or multiple teams) from our area to set up some games. Games will take place at
Intra-squad Games: Stanford Water Polo Club will once again be setting up intra-squad competition on select Sundays. All games will be held at
Legends Tournament (March 23-25): Select Stanford Age Group Athletes will participate in the first annual Legends Tournament, being hosted by the Pacific Zone. The invitational tournament will celebrate “LEGENDS of the game.” Athletes will be competing in a two division format (8th Grade & Under, and 6th grade & Under) and should prove to be educational and very competitive. Selection of athletes for these teams will take place during the Spring Session and will be based on practice attendance, attitude, ability level and availability.
Pacific Zone Spring League: All Age Group Intermediate and Age Group Advanced athletes will participate in the Pacific Zone Spring League. The league provides athletes with great competition against other clubs from within the Pacific Zone. Competition dates are; March 18th, April, 1st, April 15th, and April 22nd
Micro Clinics: During March, we will be running five one-day clinics for beginner level athletes, ages 11 & under. These clinics are designed to introduce the sport water polo to boys who have little to no experience. During these one-day clinics we will give athletes a basic introduction to the sport of water polo while providing them with a fun and exciting learning environment. We encourage all of our club families to help spread the word about our Micro/Beginner Clinics! Registration for these clinics will take place at the venue on the day of each clinic. (There will be no pre-registration.)
