18&U and 16&U Athletes Return from Florida with Bronze: February 17-19, 2006. Two select groups of athletes were chosen to represent Stanford Water Polo Club at the 4th Annual South Florida International Tournament held in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The tournament provided our athletes with a great opportunity to compete against some high level international competition, as well as some very talented teams from across the United States. Both of our teams, 18&U and 16&U, competed in the tournament’s 19&U division where they got to square off against teams from Puerto Rico, Israel, and Hungary. Both teams competed at a very high level, with the 18&U team bringing home the third place trophy by soundly defeating a Florida Coast team in the 3rd place game. “We were able to play some great games and build some good team chemistry,” said Coach Barnea. “I was very proud of the way that both teams competed at this tournament.”
14&U Athletes Return from Los Alamitos Winterfest: February 10-12, 2006. A select group of 14&U athletes returned from the Los Alamitos Winterfest Tournament, having gained some great playing experience against some of the top 14&U teams in the country. Coming home with a 6th place finish, the Stanford athletes were able to get a good taste of what their competition will shape up like as they prepare to head down to San Diego for the County Cup at the end of our Spring Session. Coach Schubert stated, "All these guys played their hearts out in every game. Not a moment went by where we did not continue to improve and grow stronger as a team." We are very proud of our athletes that competed at this tournament. They did a great job of representing themselves and the Stanford Water Polo Club.
Spring Session Off To A Great Start: Our Spring Session began last week and is off to a great start. The entire staff is very pleased with the amount of enthusiasm that our athletes have brought to the pool deck. We have had a great turnout at our Beginners Clinics and are looking forward to the remainder of these March Micro Clinics. If you know anyone who may have young athletes interested in our clinics, information on remaining dates and locations can be found below.

Our 2006 Spring Session will begin Wednesday, March 1st and end Sunday, May 7th. To ensure the highest quality of our program, we will be limiting the number of participants in each practice group. They will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The enrollment period will open on Thursday, February 9th and close on Wednesday, February 22nd (unless we reach capacity at an earlier date), so please complete the application at your earliest convenience to secure a place on the team. If you are a returning member of our club, you will receive an email notification on February 9th with a link to your “short-cut” registration. Workout groups will be posted on the website on Monday, February 27th.

This session will feature the following Special Events:
Premier League Weekend (April 8th& 9th): This weekend, the nation’s top male water polo players will compete in the second of four tournaments of the 2006 Division I Premier League. The league, now in its seventh season, is comprised of the top high school, college, post-college, National and ex-National Team players. Premier League brings elite domestic water polo to various venues throughout the country each year and features four of the nation’s top club teams and four U.S. National Zone Teams. On Saturday, April 8th, we will attend as a club to watch some of the games (played locally), and on Sunday, April 9th we will hold our very own Club Premier League for spring session athletes. The Club Premier League teams will combine athletes from our 18&U/16&U/14&U/12&U age divisions. More details to come as they become available.
Invitational Games: We will be inviting a club team (or multiple teams) from our area to set up some games. Games will take place at
Intra-squad Games: Stanford Water Polo Club will once again be setting up intra-squad competition on select Sundays (see Club Calendar). All games will be held at

Registration: Registration must be completed online at www.stanfordwaterpoloclub.com. If you need assistance, please email stanfordwaterpoloclub@yahoo.com. Upon submitting your online registration, you will need to print out two pages. Please read both pages carefully. The signature page must be submitted with your payment.
Team Roster: We have added an area on the registration form where you may give your consent for your contact information (name and primary phone number and/or email address) to be distributed on a team roster. This information will only go to Stanford Water Polo Club members for the current session. We are hoping that this will help with carpooling and add to team camaraderie.
IMPORTANT: Because this is the start of a new calendar year, all athletes must submit the following documents. Your registration application will not be valid without these items submitted by February 22nd, 2005. (Any registration materials postmarked after Wednesday, February 22nd will incur a $30 late fee which must be added to your payment.)
1. Signature Page
2. Payment
3. Copy of current USWP Membership Card. Your affiliation must be with Stanford Water Polo Foundation, Club #570, Pacific Zone (#6).
4. Copy of your Medical Coverage Card.
Cost: The cost of the spring session for High School is $280; Age Group (including all 8th graders) is $360. If you are unsure of which group your son will be placed, please contact jonbarnea@stanfordwaterpolo.com. We expect all High School athletes to be participating in either their high school or club swim teams. Age Group athletes will be conditioning most Tuesdays, in addition to their three practice days per week. (Please see “Practice Group Schedule” and/or “Calendar” links to the left.) Additional siblings are $30 less than the regular fee.
The Beginner Group will run differently than in previous sessions. During March, we will be running four one-day clinics for our Beginners. These clinics are designed to introduce water polo and get kids excited about the sport. We encourage all of our club families to help spread the word about our Beginner Clinics! Registration for these clinics will take place at the venue on the day of each clinic. (There will be no pre-registration.)
