PRACTICE GROUP ASSIGNMENTS*
Athletes will be placed into 1 of 6 practice groups. Due to the number of athletes and the level of tournament play in the summer session, athletes must practice with their assigned group. Group assignments will be made by the coaching staff and posted on the Practice Groups and Schedule page of our web site by Friday, May 21st.
*Note: There may be some changes to practice group assignments during the first two weeks of the session while coaches assess athletes who are new to our Club.

The division between the Age Groups and High School Groups will be based on birth date. Players born on July 31, 1995 and later will be assigned to one of the Age Groups: AG 1, AG 2, or Jr. Polo, while players born between August 1, 1995 - July 30, 1991 will be assigned to one of the three High School groups: HS 1A, HS 1B, or HS 2.

STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (optional add-on)
Stanford University Strength and Conditioning Coach Stephen DiLustro will be offering an 8-week Strength & Conditioning program to Stanford Water Polo Club athletes. The strength & conditioning program is a unique opportunity to train each student athlete for the physical and metabolic demands of water polo. Training is provided to each athlete by the same Strength and Conditioning coaches, and using the same facilities, as the Stanford Cardinal Men's Water Polo Team. This is an intense academy designed to provide the fundamental components necessary to maximize athletic performance and physical development. More details will be posted as they become available.

SUMMER TOURNAMENTS
Below you will find a list of tournaments that are currently scheduled for the 2010 Summer Session. We will be adding more local tournaments to the list as we get closer to summer so please continue to check back for updates. These can also be found on our Calendar

June 11-13: Junior Olympic Qualifier for select 16&U
June 18-20: Junior Olympic Qualifier for select 12&U, 14&U, & 18&U
July 9-11: US Club Championships for select 14&U, 16&U, and 18&U
July 31-August 3: Boys Junior Olympics* (Los Angeles) for select 12&U, 14&U, 16&U, and 18&U

The boys' Junior Olympic competition will take place July 31st - August 3rd, and we hope to qualify as many Stanford Club teams as possible. In order to participate at the Junior Olympics, teams must first qualify through our Pacific Zone qualifying tournament. (See dates above for each age group's qualifying dates.) In order to be considered for a JO Team, athletes must commit and declare themselves eligible by submitting their signed Junior Olympic Declaration of Commitment form along with their $200 deposit postmarked by Tuesday, June 1st.

Per USA Water Polo's new change in it's Conduct of Championships, an athlete's age for USA Water Polo Zone Qualification Tournaments and National Championship events will be determined by an athlete's age on the first day of the respective National Championship Finals competition, not the year you were born, as in years past. Thus, the age cut-offs per group for the 2010 Junior Olympics will be as follows:

10&U: July 31, 1999 and later
12&U: July 31, 1997 and later
14&U: July 31, 1995 and later
16&U: July 31, 1993 and later
18&U: July 31, 1991 and later

Stanford Club athletes may be selected to play up an age group. Such decisions will be made by the coaching staff on a case by case basis.

The JO Declaration of Commitment form will print out with the signature pages once you submit your online registration. We encourage you to submit the Commitment form and deposit with your registration materials if you know you are available. Selection to a JO team is based on, but not limited to, the following criteria: overall ability level, work ethic, and longevity with the Club. Athletes selected for Junior Olympic teams to play in the Qualifying Tournament will be posted on our web site by Sunday, June 6th .

ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND: The Stanford Water Polo Foundation Athletic Scholarship Fund helps athletes participate in our program that otherwise would not be able to due to financial hardship*. For those who would like to contribute to this fund in support of our athletes, please fill in the designated area on the registration form. Donations are tax-deductible. Please make these checks payable to 'SWPF', or 'Stanford Water Polo Foundation'. Thank you for your generosity.
*If you feel that you may qualify for an athletic scholarship and would like an application, please email Dawn (email).

USA Water Polo Membership**: All athletes must be current members of United States Water Polo in order to participate in any and all practices and competitions. www.usawaterpolo.org (A hard copy is required to be submitted as part of your registration paperwork.)
**We recommend that all of our returning Club athletes register for the Gold Athlete Membership, except for our Junior Polo athletes (born in 1999 or later who are not likely to move to Age Group in 2010), who can register for the Silver Athlete Membership.

The new USA Water Polo Trial Membership* (no charge) is a one-time membership, which is good for one week of practice (no competitions). If you have been a member of USA WP in the past, you are not eligible for this membership. Please visit the USA Water Polo web site to find their 2010 Trial Membership in a pdf which you will need to download, print out, and complete.
Important! Be sure to date the application with the date of the first day of the session, make a copy to submit for registration, and fax the original to USA WP. After the first week, you will need to register for the Silver Athlete membership if you want to continue the Two Week Trial and possibly the remainder of the session.
